Add Trendlines function not available in Excel 2007

Running Excel 2007 under Windows XP Professional

Excel is running in compatibility mode.  I have created a line chart of a data series and selected the data series.  Add Trendline function in Layout - icon shadow is visible but function is not selectable.

How do I enable Add Trendlines function?

Have to admit I cannot replicate this in one of my own charts in compatibility mode.

Prob suggest saving and closing the workbook and excel completely. Restart and try again.

Either by right clicking or through the ribbon - if you can't add a trendline it won't even show the option.

Have you tried right clicking on the chart line itself?

I've tried various levels of workbook or worksheet protection, selecting multiple tabs, multiple charts and the same holds true no matter.
Sharing makes no difference - you just can't select the chart at all.

If no one else comes up with anything you could always post up a section of the workbook for someone to look at.

I suspect you have either a 'stacked line' or '100% line' selected. Neither of these offer the trendlines option. Try right clicking the chart and changing the 'type' to either a simple line or one with markers or an x-y scatter. This should light it up for you

    Nick,

That was it - stacked line.  Thanks.

Nice one Nick - that's one to remember, can't think of the last time I had occasion to use those.

Very informative. However, what if you need a trendline on a stacked chart? Any other options with Excel?
